Pay day and all banks rub their hands in glee- money, money, money… As a user of a non commercial- municipal credit union I think my fellow bankers have less headaches and surprises than those across the street in the big name banks.

No hidden fees, no minimums, free checking, membership fees, and the cherry on top- easier access to your money- no disappearing acts. The check will bounce- its denied or covered but the $30-40 tag is not eating your savings away. Its hard finding the cash and trying to save it only to realize the talking heads went skiing with it!

Yep hail the municipal credit unions! At the very least their never exactly front page news paid by yours truly!

Drops, eye paddles, digital retinal scans, “better or worse” clicking between lenses- paralyzing drops for eye pressure, blinding scoping lights, yellow tears, the dry eye…

All for the opportunity to be in the eye of the beholder- actually beholding clearly… So you going? Yep! Then they’ll have to be polarized. Perfect.

An adventure brews on the horizon and I prepare… I’ll be wanting to behold my goal when I finally make it!

Waiting… Waiting at the doctor’s office. The soft elevator music streaming from elevators opening on the floor. The occasional environmental cough- self conscious cough when surrounded by strangers in a strange environment. The countless back issue magazines- take your pick Harper’s, GQ, Women and Men’s Health both, Architectural Digest; how that got there is anyone’s guess. The Ice mag on skiing- one of the doctors, PBA somethingorother- betcha its al Tiger Woods (yeah, yeah they need him back they’re losing lots of mulla!); and the ever present Good Housekeeping, Better Homes & Gardens.

The clip boards and the non stop paperwork just to see a doctor; feels like filling out a mortgage application. The co-pays; nope mine is ziltch for well care appointments.

The snippets of conversation- the little old ladies in walkers chatting away trading medical war stories- who got the worst pain, who got the horrible scar, who gets this that or the other with some whatchamacallit medicine. The men stoic in their pain clouds, the wives bored or harried.

Now don’t forget to say…your mind whirls as your name is called and that white coat appears to greet you. Why is it that all thoughts fly when you see a white coat?

Remnants of childhood and shots you knew were always coming…

So I ask…What is going on? Why have I been sitting in this corner of my house staring at nothing in particular. I’ve done all the regular stuff I need and have to do today. But something is missing and I really, honestly don’t know what that is. Wish for an epiphany, guiding light, the Three Kings, the Mahdi, anything!

But the house is deathly quiet. As if whom ever lived here is long gone. Nothing to show the passing but utter silence.

I have refused to budge and just watch what happens around me. And for the past God knows how many hours I have sat like a lotus flower- stuck in the mud.

What the hell is wrong with me? Must be winter and cabin fever… I need some fresh air. “come boy”! Leash in hand my trusty companion knows this is a long walk- it’s not the yard. I’ll kick around the park, let him tumble a few snowmen, bark at some twigs, while I stare up at the cold starry night and wonder- Where did I go wrong?
